Smurfit Kappa Recycling, one of the largest recyclers of paper and cardboard in the UK, has invested £650,000 in a new Lyndex BiMax 145 baler at its Birmingham depot.
The powerful Lyndex baler enables Smurfit Kappa Recycling to produce up to 26 high density bales per hour. It is self-cleaning, runs cooler and more quietly than the machine it replaces and features an automatic shut off for greater operational safety.
The new baler will help to produce efficiency gains in handling, storage and transportation of material to the company’s paper mills. It compacts material in its 2,000mm length press box to less than 300mm to ensure a high density bale. The machine’s shear presses allow the processing of long material such as carpet tubes with no interruption to production times. Triangular shaped blades on the moving platen give a smooth cutting action and reduce the force required to shear the material.

Smurfit Kappa Recycling’s Birmingham depot, like all its operations nationally, is certified to BS EN ISO14001, the internationally-recognised Environmental Management System Standard, and OHSAS18001, the Occupational Health and Safety Management System Standard.
