Bearing specialist igus UK has developed the igubal EBRM-16 V steel/plastic rod end bearing to bridge the gap between traditional steel and plastic bearings in terms of load capabilities.

The igubal EBRM-16V features an integrated metal insert, which enables it to handle tensile loads of up to 15kN, a 50% increase over standard igubal rod end bearings, without having to compromise on any of the beneficial maintenance and lubrication free characteristics offered by its pure plastic counterparts. The rod end is lighter than a full steel version and its core plastic properties mean it is resistant to chemicals, corrosion, dirt and debris as well as having high vibration and dampening qualities.

Additionally, it can compensate for misalignment and edge loading, and is the ideal solution for many solar power systems and facades, and machine building projects around the world. At present, this part is available in a 16mm diameter, but igus can use the same design principles in other dimensions if suitable.

The hybrid EBRM-16 V rod end bearing is a leading-edge component enabling design engineers to get the best of both worlds; the strength of a standard steel bearing and the technical advantages and cost effectiveness of plastic.
