As one of the world’s largest manufacturers of construction equipment, shipping parts to around 150 countries, JCB know all about the logistics challenges that global companies face. The company will be sharing their experiences at a free event taking place later this month.

The traditional issues of vehicle utilisation and optimisation have now combined with a rising demand for both supplies and end products within 24 hours – and sometimes less. JCB’s Operations Director for Worldwide Parts Chris Buckler will be explaining how his company, which deals with over 2,000 dealer locations across 150 countries, has met changing customer demand.

Organised by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and transport management experts 3T Logistics, the JCB talk takes place at 3T’s headquarters in Leicester on Tuesday 7th March from 6pm.

Entitled ‘Aftermarket logistics and transport: Trends for a global aftermarket business, the event will include a talk from Chris detailing how the company has used a new transport management system (TMS) developed by 3T to improve logistics processes within the company. Chris will also talk about e-commerce, managing a global footprint, black box technology, and global stock management.

The event will be particularly useful for large companies with diverse logistical needs according to 3T’s Business Development Manager Steve Holmes. He comments: “We have noticed a rising trend for organisations seeking to exert more control over their transport systems so they are able to ensure more efficient transportation of supplies and goods to meet increasingly tight timescales.

“As JCB can testify, an efficient, high tech TMS is key to meeting deadlines, effective communication, lowering costs and keeping customers happy.”

JCB’s Service division has a target of fulfilling 95% availability of urgent parts within 24 hours. The company has worked with 3T for eight years. Europe’s largest independent 4PL, 3T supply JCB with a full TMS system in addition to automated barcode labelling, track and trace at part level and a customer facing web based business intelligence platform (BIP) which helps manage transport operations and data.

The ‘Aftermarket logistics and transport: Trends for a global aftermarket business’ event takes place on Tuesday 7th from 6pm to 8.30pm at 3T’s offices in Grove Park, Leicester LE19 1SX.
