Specialist logistics company Rhenus has expanded its dedicated home delivery facility in Hoppegarten, Germany, in order to meet the rapidly growing demand in the Berlin and Brandenburg areas. The expanded 70,000m² facility welcomed customers, employees and representatives from the worlds of politics and business to its official opening.

Including the new building, which is 13,000m², the headquarters of Rhenus Home Delivery in Hoppegarten now consists of four warehouses and an office complex. The first expansion project, involving about 21,000m², took place two years ago and the company has now been able to move into its second extension.

“Our assembly and delivery teams are in action on the streets of Berlin and Brandenburg day by day. We’re experiencing annual growth of more than ten percent and have already been able to create many jobs. Manufacturers, which produce their goods in Central Europe, particularly make use of our gateway in Hoppegarten. The extension is enabling us to set a clear pathway for the future and create attractive working conditions for our employees,” says Nicolas Rottmann, Managing Director of Rhenus Home Delivery.

Cupboards, kitchens, mattresses as well as many other furniture items and large appliances from furniture stores or electrical shops are stocked at the logistics centre. Once orders have been received, two-man teams transport the items to customers. The services offered by Rhenus Home Delivery not only include the transportation, but also assembling and connecting the units. Due to Rhenus Home Delivery’s primary focus, being a sustainable business, the new warehouse has been specifically equipped with electrical charging points for vehicles.

In 2017, the logistics specialists tested a hybrid truck from the Mercedes Benz Innovation fleet- the first company in Germany to do so. This year they started using three fully electric FUSO eCanter vehicles and trucks powered by natural gas.

“We’re promoting the careful use of resources both in the warehouse and on the roads. This includes integrating alternative types of drive systems and making deliveries without any paper, using solar power collectors on top of our storage areas and energy-saving LED lamps inside,” Rottmann adds.
