Transdek UK, a specialist in the double deck sector, has been granted a patent for its award winning fixed double deck trailer that can carry up to 100% more than a standard single deck vehicle and deliver significant savings for operators.
The patent recognises Transdek’s unique Wedge chassis/body design, which allows full-height loading on both decks, including over the neck. This enables a full deck run-through of pallets or rollcages up to 1,883mm in height for maximised loading capacity.
Compared to powered double deck alternatives, the Wedge trailer can offer up to 25% additional load volume and up to seven-tonnes extra payload by weight, providing much more efficient transport with reduced operating costs, fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions.
Commenting on the new patent Transdek’s Managing Director, Mark Adams, said: “I’m delighted that the Wedge trailer’s innovative design has received a patent grant. At Transdek, we always try to push the boundaries of accepted industry standards, to see if we can work with our customers to offer real added value to the supply chain.
“In the case of the Wedge, we have adapted the conventional sloping chassis design to provide increased load clearance on each deck. For a large number of operators, this subtle development makes the difference between carrying 52 pallets in the Wedge compared to 44 pallets in other double deck trailers.”
The benefits of Transdek’s Wedge trailer have already been recognised by major retail and food service businesses, with Boots, the UK’s leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer, now operating 60 Wedge trailers to reduce mileage, fuel costs and CO2 emissions on its primary transport routes. Other early adopters include Thomas Ridley Foodservice for distributing itschilled, ambient and frozen products.
At its design and engineering development facility in Harworth, South Yorkshire, Transdek produces bespoke double deck trailers and associated equipment to enhance the supply chain operations of a wide range of companies.
