Yamato Scale Dataweigh, a leading manufacturer of multihead weighers and checkweighers, is celebrating its 90th anniversary.

The business has come a long way since it was founded in 1922 as the weighing machine division of Kawanishi Machinery Co. Ltd. in Japan where it was quickly established as the leader for industrial weighing in the steel, chemical and heavy industries. 23 years later, it was rebranded as Yamato Scale Dataweigh and has since evolved into a revered and well-established business at the forefront of multihead weighing technology.

The business quickly expanded to serve a variety of sectors and applications, both in the food and non-food industries. As one of its first significant developments, Yamato released the very first multihead weigher with load cells in 1979. By 1988, Yamato was the first weighing company, in the world, to create mixing-software for multihead weighers that would enable the precise weighing of mixed applications.

Today, the company provides both automatic and semi-automatic multihead weighers capable of weighing, mixing and counting with greater accuracy at high speeds. Ideal for large production lines and complicated application mixtures, such as confectionary or fruit and nuts, Yamato multihead weighers help manufacturers eliminate inaccuracies on the packaging line that can affect both end users and suppliers.

No longer a supplier of just multihead weighers and checkweighers, Yamato has expanded its offering to include case packers for reliable packaging solutions.

Speaking about the 90th anniversary, Ray Bruen, commercial director for Yamato, commented: “The manufacturing industries have been through a series of dramatic changes over the years. Today, manufacturers expect more from processing machinery without any reduction in quality or safety.”

Bruen continued, “We know that manufacturers are changing the way in which businesses meet the demands of modern consumers. At Yamato, we work to the mantra ‘Business Kikaku’, which means ‘going beyond what we have today’. It summarises our strategy moving forward; to ensure our technology exceeds modern day standards for improved flexibility, quality, safety and efficiency.”
